200 former foster youths housed through OC United Way assistance program

The dream, said Nathaly Santana, a former foster youth, was building a life for her family in a home she called her own. In the year since she moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Santa Ana, Santana has enrolled in Cal State Long Beach to pursue a career in teaching and adopted her 3-year-old sister, Vanessa, who she calls her daughter. Santana said her two other sisters, who are 17 and 20, come over often now that she has a home to host visits.

Orange County United Way and UC Irvine to launch homelessness cost study: Haynes Foundation-funded effort will update decade-old analysis of spending, track results

Irvine, Calif., May 12, 2026 — Orange County United Way and the University of California, Irvine are partnering to launch a new homelessness cost analysis that will provide evidence-based insight into the use of public resources to address the issue and which interventions have the greatest impact. The goal of the project is to advance governance, improve public accountability and expand civic understanding.
